Virginia Engagement Session // Morgan + Sam // Grayson Highlands
I asked Morgan to describe her most treasured dates with Sam. There were two that stood out to her. Both were hiking adventures that turned treacherous, but ultimately brought the them closer together. In her own words, “We normally end dates like this saying ‘Today I fell more in love with you than I did the day before’“.
With that being said, this session had Morgan and Sam’s names written all over it. A few days before, I checked to make sure that it wouldn’t be snowing the day of the session. I neglected to remember that once it snows in the mountains, the snow will pretty much stay put through the winter. We were in for an adventure. Bryan and I met up with Morgan and Sam in Grayson Highlands and took portraits throughout the park. In many parts, the snow was about six inches deep and in other places, the drifts would come up to our knees. The trails leading up to the rocks I originally planned to shoot on were impossible to find so we kept on hiking, stopping every now and then to get a few more shots.
We finally found a rock formation to shoot on. The sun was sinking below the horizon and the sky was glowing. After Morgan changed into her dress, we shot for a few minutes until their fingers, and Morgan’s toes!, were near freezing. The wind chill had brought temperatures into the teens and kept us struggling to maintain our balance, but the images were so worth it. As we raced back down to the parking lot, we laughed at how perfectly Sam and Morgan the situation was.
We made it to the parking lot as the light completely disappeared, chilled to the bone, but our hearts were full. And that’s why I love engagement sessions. They give us a peek into the real love and nature of the couple, build mutual trust and honest memories, and are just straight up a good time!!
So without further ado, here are Sam and Morgan! I can’t wait for their wedding this summer!
